This spring my parents sold our family home. My two sisters (I’m the middle sister – blog posts to follow on that topic) and my parents and I spent a week together there cleaning out the house. We are all married and have families, so it’s hard to remember when we have all been together, just us with no spouses or kids. It was a week to treasure. We lived together in the house that they built in 1970 and moved in when my sister was a newborn. All of the things and memories were there. It was remarkable and a time I will always treasure. We found old bikes and letters and books and even our high school letter jackets! Of course, it was difficult and messy, but we did it together. I am so grateful to have done this with my parents while they could participate both mentally and physically. We did it with them now – and not for them later. This allowed joy to prevail over sadness. This is the letter my sister Nancy wrote to leave on the refrigerator for the new owners. It really says it all.
